There’s something quietly magical about Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter - the soft clink of metal on metal, the golden warmth of shopfronts lit from within, the legacy of thousands of hands shaping something precious from raw metal and stone.

At the heart of it all is Victoria, a jeweller and silversmith who’s spent nearly two decades honing her craft. But she’s not just making jewellery - she’s helping others discover the joy of making it too.

Welcome to The Quarterworkshop.

Rings, romance and rolling mills

Tucked inside a light-filled studio surrounded by centuries of jewellery-making history, Victoria offers something rare: the chance to not just wear a beautiful piece, but create one.

“We help everybody make something handmade in precious metal that they can take home and be proud of,” she says.

From dainty silver stacking rings to full wedding bands forged by loved-up couples, Victoria’s workshops turn first-timers into makers.

A spark that’s lasted centuries

Jewellery has long been in Birmingham’s bones. In the late 1700s, the city emerged as a powerhouse of precision and creativity, and by the 1800s, the Jewellery Quarter was the crown jewel of British jewellery manufacturing.

And while the factory horns may have quieted, the craft never left. The rich history has been recognised with the recent award of World Craft City - one of only a handful in the world! Today, around 700 jewellers still call the Quarter home, producing nearly 40% of the UK’s jewellery. Walk its streets, and you’ll feel it - a romance that lives in every hammered ring, every hand-engraved pendant.

“It gives me the opportunity to do what I love,” Victoria says, glancing around her studio, “and I don’t think I’d have been able to do that anywhere else apart from here.”

A true hub for creatives and independent

But the Quarter is more than just metal and gems. It’s a living, breathing neighbourhood full of stories and surprises. Boutique bars, artisan cafés, indie hairdressers, even reformer Pilates classes - all within a few cobbled streets.

“Everything you need is here,” Victoria adds. “It’s a hub for creatives - and the whole jewellery industry really.”

It’s also the perfect spot for a date with a difference. Instead of just browsing engagement rings, why not make them together? At The Quarterworkshop, couples can craft their own wedding bands, shaping a symbol of commitment with fire, tools, and their own two hands. Now that’s a keepsake.
