Away from the hustle and bustle of the malls you’ll find some of retail’s finest names and fantastic street entertainment in Birmingham’s shopping streets.
New Street
Birmingham’s best-known street runs from the Bullring to Victoria Square, passing some of the city centre’s most recognisable landmarks along the way.
There’s plenty to see as you make your way towards the Town Hall and Council House, with the historic Victoria Square and Chamberlain Square just a short walk away. For entertainment, the ODEON offers the latest blockbusters, while cafés, bars and restaurants provide plenty of places to stop for a coffee, lunch or a drink.
Look beyond New Street and you’ll find some of the city centre’s more characterful corners. Needless Alley leads off the main street, while Piccadilly Arcade and Burlington Arcade offer a glimpse of Birmingham’s historic shopping arcades, with independent businesses, places to eat and drink and plenty of architectural detail to discover.
Take your time, explore the side streets and arcades, and you’ll find there’s more to New Street than meets the eye.
Corporation Street
Recognised as a destination in its own right, Corporation Street is an easy walk from New Street Station, Snow Hill Station and the Bullring.
One of Birmingham’s best-known Victorian streets, it stretches from the city centre towards the Jewellery Quarter, with grand architecture, cafés, restaurants and plenty of places to pause along the way. Look out for the distinctive red-brick buildings and ornate details that give the street much of its character.
Just off Corporation Street, Martineau Place offers places to eat and relax, while Cherry Street leads towards Birmingham Cathedral. Take a moment to explore the cathedral and its peaceful churchyard – a welcome green space in the heart of the city centre.
High Street
High Street runs through the centre of Birmingham, linking the Bullring and Grand Central with New Street and the rest of the city centre.
It’s a busy pedestrianised street with plenty of places to eat and stop for a coffee, and it’s a handy route between some of Birmingham’s main attractions.
From High Street, you can easily reach New Street, Victoria Square and the city’s historic arcades, or head into the Bullring and continue towards Digbeth.
The bustling High Street has big names such as Waterstones, the city’s largest Boots and the world's biggest Primark.
Bull Street
Running through the heart of Birmingham city centre, Bull Street connects the shopping areas around the Bullring with Corporation Street, New Street and the Jewellery Quarter.
It’s a busy city-centre thoroughfare, but look beyond the bustle and you’ll find plenty of Birmingham character, from historic buildings and distinctive architecture to cafés, places to eat and smaller streets leading off the main route.
Bull Street is also a useful starting point for exploring more of the city centre on foot. Head towards Birmingham Cathedral, explore the surrounding streets and arcades, or continue towards the Jewellery Quarter and discover another side of Birmingham.
