A two day itinerary in Brindleyplace

Welcome to one of Birmingham’s most popular leisure destinations - Brindleyplace.  Built around the city’s famous canal network, Brindleyplace can offer visitors a beautiful al fresco setting with approximately 30 restaurants and bars to choose from.  This area is also home to a number of cultural attractions and one of Birmingham’s major event venues - the Utilita Arena Birmingham.

Brindleyplace is easily accessible by public transport, the West Midlands Metro has multiple tram stops running the length of the adjacent Broad Street.  If on foot, Brindleyplace is just a ten-minute walk from Birmingham New Street Station in the West side of the city centre; ­many business visitors will find they are in the vicinity of Brindleyplace, as the world class conferencing facility the International Convention Centre is situated opposite, across the floral canal bridge.

Day 1

7:00-9:00 / Breakfast

It’s your first day, so get up and out and have breakfast in one of Brindleyplace’s many coffee shops – take a stroll canalside and soak up the early morning atmosphere.

10:00-11:30 / Attraction / National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham

The UK’s first Sea Otters, Gentoo Penguins and the UK’s only 360° Ocean Tunnel are all highlights of Birmingham’s National SEA LIFE Centre.

Start the day watching sharks, a giant turtle, ray and hundreds of tropical fish swimming above and below you as you walk through the 360° Ocean Tunnel, partake in an incredible virtual reality experience, Flight of the Mantas and A Mermaid's Quest and enjoy the cheeky antics of the Gentoo Penguins at the Penguin Ice Adventure.

12:00 – 13:30 / Lunch / Rudy’s Pizza

All that sea life air is sure to have worked up an appetite, so head to Rudy’s Pizza in Oozells Square for some of the best pizza in Birmingham. The pizzas are huge, hanging off the plate affairs and topped with the finest ingredients – they are very reasonably priced too.  Rudy’s adhere to the traditions and artistry of pizza from Naples - the birthplace of pizza.

14:00 – 16:00 / Activity / Leisurely canalside walk

Walk of that dough! Head down the steps by Brindleyplace’s bandstand onto the canal path and turn right. With the Utilita Arena behind you take a leisurely stroll along the towpath and after about 10 mins, you will find yourself at the Mailbox – one of Birmingham’s most lavish locations.

If your feeling flush, treat yourself in one of the many designer stores including a 45,000 square foot Harvey Nichols which showcases over 200 of the world’s most desirable brands.  There are plenty of delicious restaurants to temp you here – but this is a Brindleyplace itinerary! So about turn and either stroll back the way you came or have a little trip on the water taxi back to Brindleyplace.

17:00 – 18:30 / Dinner / Lulu Wild

Lulu Wild’s menu showcases some of the most diverse culinary heritages in the world, each dish is made with the freshest ingredients ensuring a truly delicious experience. With a spectacular interior and impeccable service, you’d be dim sum to skip Lulu Wild.

19:00 – 22:00 / Activity / The Crescent Theatre or Symphony Hall

A choice of cultural options to end your first day in Brindleyplace.

Birmingham’s Symphony Hall is regarded as one of the premier music halls in the world. From world-renowned classical, rock and pop artists to award-winning comedians, you’ll find a performance to entertain you from the hundreds on offer throughout the year.

Alternatively watch a production from one of Birmingham’s oldest theatre companies. The Crescent Theatre stages upwards of fifteen productions a year in their 300+ seat main house and 100+ seat studio theatre.

Day 2

7:00-9:00 / Breakfast

If it was a late one, you’ll probably want to use the hotels breakfast facilities today!

10:00 - 11:00 / Activity / Walk

But don’t linger too long, there’s still plenty to experience in Brindleyplace!  Our first attraction doesn’t open until 11:00 – so take a relaxed stroll around Brindleyplace and the canalside – The Water’s Edge, Brunswick Square, see the fountains in Central Square before heading to Oozells Square – the location of our next attraction…

11:00 - 13:00 / Attraction + Lunch / Ikon Gallery + Yorks at Ikon

Housed in a magnificent Grade II listed neo-gothic school building, Ikon Gallery is situated in Brindleyplace’s Oozells Square. This contemporary art venue is internationally acclaimed and presents a regular programme of exhibitions, events and seminars, representing some of the world's best visual artists. Don't miss the famous singing lift, designed by Turner Prize-winner Martin Creed. Ikon also houses Birmingham's only independent arts bookshop.

Whilst here you should grab lunch in Yorks at Ikon- with their own-roasted coffee, this fine independent serves an award-winning brunch menu all day alongside a casual lunch menu from noon.

14:00-15:30 / Attraction / The Park VR Experience

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable adventure! Your VR journey at The Park begins with a thrilling introductory experience that will test your nerves and get your adrenaline pumping.  After your safety briefing, it's time for the main event: the immersive free-roam VR experience of your choice.

The Park offers six different VR experiences which offer the following themes: Horror, Adventure, Battle, Action, Teamwork and Sci Fi and is suitable from ages 7+ and 2-8 players.
