Vicky Turner is the “captain” of the new Moxy Birmingham NEC, which opened on 22 January. Originally from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, Vicky has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 16 years with the Holiday Inn Express chain. We gave her 20 seconds to tell us about the West Midlands’ newest hotel…
Continue reading to discover Vicky's favourite throwback, weekend activity, place to eat, nightlife experience, tune and what she's most looking forward to this year in the West Midlands region!
VT: When I was growing up, I loved visiting the West Midlands’ tourist attractions with my brothers and parents such as Cadbury World (they used to give so much chocolate away!) and West Midlands Safari Park, with monkeys climbing on the car!
VT: I would go on a day out to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley for their great fish and chips, then shopping at The Mailbox, a nice meal and then a great stay at Moxy Birmingham NEC!
VT: The West Midlands has so many fantastic places to eat, whether it’s Michelin-starred restaurants, independent venues or Indian cuisine, that it’s impossible to choose a favourite! So I’d simply pick anywhere that serves delicious food!
VT: I would go to a nice bar for a great cocktail – somewhere like The Alchemist on Colmore Row, which is cool and quirky.
VT: I remember listening to a lot of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest growing up. We’ll be welcoming Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest to the NEC campus later this year, when they play at the Resorts World Arena in October.
VT: Moxy Birmingham NEC’s opening! Our hotel pays homage to the neighbouring Resorts World Arena, with a sound wave ceiling, as well as graffiti and guitars displayed across the walls, so the venue’s 40th anniversary this year is another big milestone for us to celebrate in the region.
