The park has open heathland, woodlands, seven lakes, wetlands, and marshes - each with its own rich variety of plants and wildlife, some rarely seen in the region. You can also spot cattle and wild ponies grazing on the land.
* Park gates are open by 9am all year. Closing times vary in line with dusk.
From mid-November to late January the park closes at 5pm. From late January closing times rise gradually until they reach 10pm by mid-May.
At the end of July the closing times fall back down gradually to 5pm by mid-November.
