You were likely 5 minutes away from the NEC and didn’t even know it. If you’ve flown into Birmingham Airport, passed Birmingham International on the train or driven on the M42 you would have bypassed the NEC. You may have read NEC road signs and thought “what’s there?” Is it just another exhibition centre? But you should know, it’s so much more than this. At the NEC, you can discover outlet stores, see the Commonwealth Games, and enjoy the great outdoors all in one visit.

The NEC is the perfect hub at the heart of England, just a short 15-minute train journey from Birmingham city centre and the ideal half-way point if you are travelling from north to south or east to west and need a 48-hour pit-stop along the way.

Day One - Visit the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Pick and choose from the 500 events that the NEC hosts every year, or better yet, be apart of the largest sporting event that the West Midlands has ever hosted and pick from the 7 Para and Non-Para Games held at the NEC for the Commonwealth Games. Whether it's Netball, Table Tennis, Boxing, Badminton or you're just eager to watch the Men’s 65KG Weightlifting, there is a game to suit everyone.

Each sporting event is a half-day experience, this gives you the opportunity to explore Solihull or the NEC in your free time and grab something to eat at one of the many eateries both locations have to offer.

So, have I persuaded you to attend the Commonwealth Games at the NEC? Whatever game you choose to watch, once you finish for the day, you will be able to make use of the FREE public transport included in your Games ticket back to your hotel, ready for another exciting day at the NEC.

Day Two - Part One, The Bear Grylls Adventure

After spending all day watching the Commonwealth Games, you might be in the spirit to try something more active yourself. The Bear Grylls Adventure was designed for people of all ages to enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities that test your boundaries without having the risk you would have in the great outdoors alone. The great range of activities include: Archery, Shooting, Shark Diving, High Ropes and a Royal Marines-inspired Assault Course. If you are struggling to choose just one activity, there is also the “9 hours of adventure” option, which would give you a full day of doing Archery, High Ropes, Climb, iFLY and Shark Dive.

This day out is perfect for anyone wanting to conquer their fears or even just to improve your abilities. It is inevitable however, that these activities may not suit your entire family, some might prefer the pleasures of Resorts World which is just next door, although, if you have a family member that would like to cheer you on, Bear Grylls Adventure allows spectators free of charge.

Day Two - Part Two, Resorts World

So, you’ve finished the Bear Grylls Adventure and need a sit down? Don’t worry Resorts World has this covered. With over 18 eateries and bars, Resorts World has something to cater for every need, from Vietnamese cuisine to Italian - you will be spoilt for choice. After this, you may want splurge on some new LEVIS? NIKE’S? or possibly some gifts to take home from The Gift Company. The brands at Resorts World are all outlet stores, so you will find the price-tag will be cheaper than on the high street.

Finally, it is your last night at the NEC and want to discover the entertainment Resorts World has to offer. Whether you are a couple, family or travelling with friends, there are numerous entertainment types to choose from, whether you want to watch the newest films at the Cinema or fancy your luck at the Casino. You will not run out of things to do.
