In Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter near the picturesque St Paul’s Church lies a room quaintly tucked away under the viaducts, which traps poor souls who dare play the doctor’s sadistic game.

No, this isn’t the scene from a James Wan blockbuster horror movie.

This is the scene from Escape Live’s Room 13 escape game. Six of the best minds from the West Midlands Growth Company accepted the challenge, but did we escape?

The team were introduced to the room by our Games Master Rob who did a great job of setting the scene.

A young girl named Amy had undergone surgery for a broken leg during her stay in hospital, but her doctor has become disturbingly infatuated with her – leading to her kidnapping.

Locked in a room, you have 60 minutes to piece together clues and puzzles to free Amy from her captor.

With blood soaked walls, the team had to work fast to gather as many clues as possible from anything we could get our hands on.

As the clock ticked down on a big screen on the wall, we heard desperate hands smash on doors as lights flickered...

The pressure was on…

Our time in the room involved plenty of flapping, running, screaming and (friendly) shouting. The team narrowly escaped with just 12 minutes and 14 seconds left… and maybe a clue (or three)!

After an intense but enjoyable experience in Room 13 the team posed for a triumphant team picture. Look at how happy we look…

We were told by Rob that many groups had unfortunately succumbed to the doctor’s brutal game so we were very lucky.

Room 13 is even more frightening during Halloween with live actors and special elements added to the games, the doctor’s dungeon becomes even more spooky.

Tickets for the seasonal event are on sale soon.

If this sounds a little too horrifying, don’t worry! There’s a number of alternative games to be enjoyed including The Lab, Dr. Wilson’s Office and Time Machine.

And don’t forget the two eagerly anticipated Peaky Blinders escape rooms that will open soon! Keep an eye on Visit Birmingham’s website and social media channels to find out more.

There’s also a number of locations across the West Midlands to entertain your escaping expertise, including Birmingham, Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon.
