To mark the long-awaited reopening of cinemas, the British gourmet popcorn specialists at Popcorn Shed have compiled a list of Birmingham’s independent cinemas that are re-opening, or have plans to do so. After all, popcorn has been a traditional cinema snack for as long as we can remember!
From swanky, boutique screening rooms to state of the art venues, the reopening of these places marks a pivotal step in the revival of the city’s art and culture scene.
EVERYMAN Mailbox
When it comes to immersing yourself in the most luxurious cinematic experience, EVERYMAN cinemas have got you covered. From the red velour seats to the intimate lighting, you truly get to watch a film in both comfort and style at these venues.
From May 17, Birmingham's EVERYMAN Mailbox will once again be opening its doors to the public. On the lineup, we have a good selection of the latest releases such as Godzilla Vs. Kong and Judas and the Black Messiah - there is even going to be a one-off screening of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory!
The Cinema At Midland Arts Centre
Midlands Arts Centre has been a beaming hub for Birmingham’s arts and culture scene for many years. Following the latest Government announcement, the owners of the organisation are pleased to announce the wait for the venue’s reopening is almost over.
What will be unveiled first is the centre’s cinema, which is opening on May 24th. So far on the programme, it has been confirmed that Nomadland and Judas and the Black Messiah will be screened to audiences. Down the line, expect to see the likes of arthouse independents and world cinema flicks being shown here.
Crescent Theatre, Birmingham
Like Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham’s Crescent Theatre has been a dedicated facilitator for the city’s art and culture scene. Even though it will be a little while until we can enjoy indoor theatre again, the venue’s cinema will be back open this month.
From May 22, family favourite classics such as Back to the Future and The Greatest Showman will be screened. Music fans will also be delighted to know that Mamma Mia and Bohemian Rhapsody are scheduled to be screened at the end of this month.
The Mockingbird, Birmingham
Last on the list, we have the beloved The Mockingbird. Located in Birmingham's popular Custard Factory, this place offers a truly unique cinematic experience - from its modern interior to luxurious seats.
Even though no official reopening date has been confirmed as of yet, this independent cinema is working hard to iron out the logistics and be back in business. Watch this space!
