The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics are fast approaching, set to take place in July and August 2021, and the NEC is looking forward to welcoming Team GB.
As it did ahead of the 2008 and 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2015 and 2019 European Games, the venue will host Team GB athletes, officials and support staff at the essential ‘Kitting Out’ event, which is staged over a three-week period from 7-30 June.
Having secured their place within Team GB for the upcoming Games, hundreds of athletes will descend upon the NEC, each leaving with suitcases of clothing and accessories. The corresponding event in 2016 welcomed 833 people to the venue in order to collect over 48,000 pieces of stock.
Naturally, whilst the purpose and requirements of ‘Kitting Out’ remain unchanged from previous years, the processes will be adapted to be COVID secure. The venue’s space will be converted to accommodate briefing areas, fitting rooms and media zones, all of which operating under the necessary health and safety measures. NEC Venue Protect outlines how these measures are being implemented across the NEC for the return of large-scale indoor events.
Donna Cunningham, Sales Director for NEC Group Conventions, said: “We are delighted to welcome Team GB back to the NEC for this important step in their preparations for the upcoming Olympics.”
“We have built a fantastic relationship with Team GB through the staging of numerous Kitting Out events, and it’s pleasing that they continue to show great confidence in our event management delivery of such a sizeable and slick operation.”
