When it comes to the perfect blend of green space, creativity and indie food spots, Moseley and King’s Heath more than deliver. Just a few miles south of Birmingham city centre, these two neighbouring areas are packed with local character – and make for a brilliant day out.
RJ and his family started their day with fresh air and a slow stroll through Cannon Hill Park – one of Birmingham’s best-loved green spaces. It’s a peaceful escape from the city with plenty of space to stretch your legs, spot wildlife or just take in the views.
A creative pause at the Midlands Arts Centre
Just a short walk through the trees, they stopped at the Midlands Arts Centre, a creative hub nestled within the park. With exhibitions, workshops, and a brilliant café, it’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time (especially when cake is involved).
“We ended up spending longer than we planned,” RJ admits. “The kids loved the gallery spaces, and the coffee was spot on.”
Independent flavour on King’s Heath High Street
From there, they made their way to King’s Heath High Street – a thriving spot for independents. Brunch was at Earlybird Bakery, known for its seasonal dishes and friendly atmosphere.
“The pastries didn’t last long,” RJ laughs. “Everything felt so homemade and welcoming.”
A wander through local shops followed – with Enki being a highlight for its curated homeware and gifts. The family picked up a few keepsakes before heading to their final stop of the day.
Laid-back dining at Blow Water Café
The day wrapped up at Blow Water Café – a standout local favourite blending East Asian flavours with a laid-back, neighbourhood feel. The relaxed vibe and inventive dishes made it the perfect place to unwind before heading home.

Whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or just fancy a solo explore, Moseley and King’s Heath are full of the kind of places that make you want to stay a little longer. Vibrant, creative and proudly independent – this corner of Birmingham is well worth your time.
