Looking for a day trip that moves to the rhythm of community, creativity, and sonic exploration? Join Dee, DJ and event producer, as she steps out from the decks to showcase the vibrant music culture of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
For Dee, music isn’t just about playing tracks – it’s about connection, atmosphere, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome. Her day is a journey through sound, space, and the people who make Brum’s music scene so alive.
A sonic start in Digbeth
Our day begins in Digbeth, the city’s creative quarter. Here, Dee’s event Pravida finds its home at Pan-Pan, a quirky, welcoming bar at the heart of the neighbourhood.
“Digbeth has this incredible energy,” Dee says, arranging cables and testing sound levels. “It’s warm, it’s eclectic, and it’s exactly the kind of space where music can breathe.”
Pan-Pan’s intimate setting allows the psychedelic, international grooves of Pravida to resonate fully, inviting everyone to lose themselves in deep rhythms and communal dancing.
Across the city: cosmic connections
Next, Dee hops between venues, curating experiences that celebrate diversity and rhythm. She runs Energy Flow, a queer, cosmic party that mixes deep grooves with entrancing bass, and Variations, a night exploring world rhythms, jazzy beats, soulful house vocals, and electronic baselines.
“Music has this power to connect people instantly,” Dee explains. “When you create the right atmosphere, everyone comes together – strangers become friends, and the dance floor becomes a shared space of joy.”
From industrial warehouses to intimate club rooms, Dee ensures every space she touches is inclusive, energetic, and alive with possibility.
A creative pause at the Custard Factory
After a morning of soundchecks and setup, Dee takes a moment to recharge at the Custard Factory. The converted industrial complex is a hub of makers, artists, and independent shops.
She wanders past graffiti murals, secondhand record stores, and pop-up markets, soaking up the inspiration. “Places like this remind me that music isn’t just in clubs – it’s in the streets, the studios, the energy of the city itself,” she says, grabbing a coffee at a tiny café tucked in a corner.
A rhythmic reflection in the West Midlands
As the sun begins to set, Dee reflects on what makes Birmingham’s music scene so special. “Community is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s on the dance floor or in the studio, we’re creating experiences that people can share, that make them feel part of something bigger.”
From Digbeth to the city’s diverse venues, Dee’s journey is a testament to the power of music to inspire, connect, and uplift. Every beat, every bassline, every shared smile contributes to a vibrant cultural tapestry that pulses through the West Midlands.
