Nestled in the heart of the Black Country and renowned for its industrial heritage, Sandwell today is a haven of green spaces and award-winning parks. Home to some of the region’s most interesting historic buildings and geologically important sites, Sandwell is sure to surprise and delight visitors of all ages.
Sandwell Valley Country Park
Smack bang in the heart of a residential area, just one mile from West Bromwich Town Centre, lies Sandwell Valley Country Park, an award-winning Green Flag park boasting 1700 acres of open countryside. This incredible park is home to woodlands, nature trails and picnic sites, lakes and pools so you’ll never be short of things to do. Based at the park are a number of attractions including Sandwell Park Farm, Forge Mill Farm and The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) centre, where visitors can witness Sandwell’s diverse wildlife.
Forge Mill Farm
Home to a range of animals including goats, alpacas, chickens, donkeys, horses and pigs, Forge Mill Farm is a real treat for all the family. The farm has recently been relaunched with lots of new farm animals – many of them rare breeds – and new educational features to help teach visitors about animal welfare. Be sure to check out the Forge Mill Farm Trail and visit the farm shop full of local produce.
Oak House Museum
The Oak House Museum is a stunning timbered yeoman farmer's house built in the 1600s, once owned by the wealthy Turton family. Set in stunning grounds, there’s plenty of outdoor space to explore and inside, you’ll find traditional panelled rooms furnished with 17th century period furniture.
The Manor House Museum
With a history dating back to 1270s, the Manor House Museum is one of the most important surviving medieval timber framed buildings in the Midlands. Discover 750 years of stories and learn about the notable residents that have lived here, with a lively programme of events and activities throughout the year.
Lightwoods Park and House
Set in almost 12 hectares of park land, the Grade II-listed house has recently been lovingly restored to its 18th century glory thanks to a £5.2million investment. Many of Lightwoods Park and House’s historical elements have been brought back to life, including the drinking fountains, the 19th century bandstand and the Shakespeare Garden.

If you’re into your shopping, check out the shops in West Bromwich town centre at New Square, Queens Square and Kings Square and hunt for a bargain at the indoor and outdoor markets.
