Roar & explore this summer at West Midland Safari Park

‘Roar & Explore’ will run for the whole of August, coinciding with the school summer holidays and celebrates the official opening of the Park’s brand-new lion habitat, Lion Ridge.

Families will be able to take part in a whole host of lion-themed activities, as well as being able to learn about lions and their threats in the wild at a Conservation Station.

Activities include a scratch card trail, photo competition and a multi-sensory, interactive, live trail where families will go on an adventure with Eddie the Explorer, to find the lions.

PR & Events Officer, Bethan Davis, said, “We’re really excited to offer our guests some extra lion-themed things to do as part of their visit to us this summer. Our onsite explorer character, Eddie, is looking forward to meeting families and getting children to use all of their senses to go on an adventure to find the lions that have just moved into the area. At the end of the trail, they will earn their explorer’s badge and may even have time to have a photo with Eddie.

 “Additionally, we have two exciting competitions which guests can get involved in to win some incredible prizes. Our scratch card competition allows guests to learn some amazing lion facts to be in with the chance of winning a VIP lion feed for four people. Additionally, if guests transform into a lion and take a picture at our new photo point, posting it on our Facebook page, they could win an overnight stay in our new Lion Lodges. We hope everyone gets involved and has a paw-some day out!”

Throughout the month, the Park will be supporting the conservation project ‘Lion Landscapes’, which works with local people in Africa, so they can coexist happily with the lions that live nearby.

Lion numbers across Africa are in decline, due to habitat depletion, a reduction in prey species and an increase in human-lion conflict, as people kill lions to keep themselves and their livestock safe.

Guests can hear about the important work of Lion Landscapes at the Conservation Station, where they can also earn a sticker for learning a lion fact.

Roar & Explore celebrates the opening of Lion Ridge, which allows guests to see lions on foot for the first time in the Park’s history.

They can find brothers, Hodge, Hercules, Havoc and Harabi and be a whisker away from the lions doing some exploring of their own in their new habitat.

As well as the Park’s summer event, on four days during the holidays, parents can book their children onto one of the Park’s Safari Holiday Clubs, where they can learn about becoming a zookeeper.

Kids aged 7-11 will enjoy a tour of the walk-through areas of the Park, watch a fascinating Sea Lion Show and even get the chance to have an exclusive Q&A session with a Sea Lion Keeper afterwards, plus will meet some smaller, friendlier animals close up.

The Roar & Explore live trail will start at Hippo Lakes at 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm and 4:00pm and with all Roar & Explore activities, is included in the admission charge and guests are encouraged to book online in advance for the best prices. Children under the age of three are free.

Adventure Theme Park rides are charged extra. Admission includes a Free Return to visit again within six months, only when booking online in advance.
