Influenced by the current heatwave sweeping across the UK, I’ve found some of the best outdoor and indoor activities to enjoy in Birmingham this summer. With festivals, tours and treasure hunts going on, you won’t be bored during the year’s hottest season.
Digbeth Funfair
With a new location (High Street Deritend) for 2022, the funfair provides amusement and adrenaline suitable for both kids and adults. Entrance remains free yet you will pay an individual price for attractions including the ‘Star Flyer’ - an air ride - or the ‘Wild Mouse’.
The theme park runs from the 14 July-29 August and back by popular demand will be the funfair’s small beach. Here you can relax under Birmingham’s sun while enjoying some fantastic food and drink.
An unknown garden
Victoria Square will turn into an urban garden this September. A project named ‘PoliNations’ seeks to stress the importance of green areas while celebrating diversity. This celebration includes free, live performances, light shows, and giant trees!

A perfect excuse to visit Moseley
Honestly, one of my favourite areas in Birmingham, Moseley is a neighbourhood where there is always something going on. In this case, its Folk & Arts Festival which takes place on the first weekend of September.
The chosen venue, with four different stages, will be the Moseley Pool and Park, a beautiful green space where musicians and poets will display their talents to the crowd. For more than 15 years, the Moseley Folk & Arts Festival has been part of the city’s cultural landscape. This year’s edition offers day tickets from £27, weekend packages, and caravan access.

All you need is a phone with internet access and tons of curiosity. Different maps will take you around the city while you follow a series of clues to learn interesting facts. One for the jazz enthusiasts
In its 38th edition, the ‘Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival’ comes back to make your body move this summer. Running from the 15-24 July, the event will host more than 100 performances.
The festival’s schedule includes both free and paid exhibitions, workshops and masterclasses - all of them organized in different venues ranging from shopping centres and hotels, to canal boats. Tell that friend of yours who loves the combination of trumpets and drums to add the event to their calendar and secure tickets today!
Discover one of Birmingham’s most iconic museums… after hours
Throughout July and August, The Coffin Works offers limited, exclusive opportunities to visit once its doors close for the general public. For £15 per person, you get access to an evening guided tour at this award-winning museum.
Whether you are a born and bred ‘Brummie’ or visiting Birmingham, this is a great value-for-money experience to take a look at the works of the previous Newman Brothers’ factory and get to know more about the renowned Jewellery Quarter.
