A brand-new independent supermarket is coming to the JQ!

Changing the way we shop, Roots Market is an exciting new independent supermarket concept that will be opening up in the Jeweller Quarter in late Autumn.  

The 1,800 square foot building on Warstone Lane, will bring a touch of the continent to the Jewellery Quarter by offering a European style way of shopping for food and essential goods. Expect locally sourced groceries, healthy ‘good to go’ meals and a range of organic produce. Breaking the barriers of the ‘weekly shop’, Roots Market is set to become an instant favourite for residents and workers seeking access to locally sourced, fresh and healthy food and will add another string to the Jewellery Quarter’s ‘independent’ bow.   

With the ongoing pandemic and economic uncertainty, the opening of Roots Market will provide a huge boost to the JQ community who wish to support local; as well as the chance to experience a brand-new,  style of shopping, unseen so far in the city.

A taste of Europe

Founder of Roots Market – and born Brummie – Andrew Goldsby, is no stranger to the European way of life. Andrew’s love for cooking with natural, organic produce began whilst working under Raymond Blanc, followed by 15 years working in the South of France. It was here where Andrew masterminded the extremely successful ‘La Petite Cave’ – a 15 seat restaurant that served purely local, seasonal, fresh food. Andrew’s passion for providing his customers with honest, clean, and organic produce saw him enter the Michelin Guide and is now bringing this ethos back to Birmingham in the form of a brand-new supermarket concept.

So what should we expect?

Roots Market

The main supermarket will offer healthy and locally sourced, seasonal food including fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, and fish. You’ll also see a whole range of organic, free from and vegan products, a carefully selected wine, beers and spirits section and delicatessen products. Removing the need for any unnecessary packaging, Roots Market will also allow you to purchase as much – or as little – as you need of grains, pulses, nuts and seeds and other essential store cupboard items through the use of zero waste gravity dispensers. Say goodbye to plastic packaging!

Roots Fraiche

An original creation by visionary and Roots Market owner Andrew Goldsby, Roots Fraiche is a range of convenient, ready-prepared meals and ‘cook at home’ inspirational recipe boxes. The range was designed drawing inspiration from selected world food and authentic flavours. Health and affordability is also key to the Roots Fraiche brand. The ethos behind Roots Fraiche is to offer well prepared meals and ingredients that are accessible to all, without compromise.

A calm and tranquil space to shop for the body and mind, Roots Remedy is home to natural vitamins and supplements. The team have selected the finest skincare, aromatherapy and men’s grooming products. Roots Remedy will also hold regular workshops and talks from leading industry ambassadors.

More than just a grocery store, Roots Market has a clear focus on quality and sustainability with the sourcing of local, seasonal produce. An exciting addition to the Jewellery Quarter’s already established independent scene, Roots Market is due to open later this year.
