Birmingham Curry Week
Tikka look at this! The inaugural Birmingham Curry Week will take place between 17 – 23 April, and organisers hope families will popadom along to their local restaurants to enjoy the best food festival bar naan.
Birmingham enjoys a worldwide reputation as a curry capital and this week-long extravaganza is sure to enhance that status.
Each day will be marked by a different curry-related event, but the overarching message is that children will eat free from the children’s menu when accompanied by an adult (T&C apply).
The aim is to encourage families to go out and enjoy a curry together.
The event kicks off with MASALA MONDAY. Facebook curry fans will be asked to take part in a social media survey with great prizes on offer as an enticement to get involved.
TIKKA TUESDAY: The Pakora Spoon Race is sure to bring out the competitive spirit in every curry fan. This race is similar to the egg and spoon race everyone enjoyed as children, except for an egg substitute a piece of pakora! We guarantee the streets of Birmingham will never have seen anything like it!
WACKY WEDNESDAY: We’ve invited a well-known local personality to shed his or her everyday working attire, don an apron and hat and join a top chef in a city restaurant to learn how to cook and serve a curry. All will be revealed on the day!
TANDOORI THURSDAY: The generous city restaurateurs are no strangers to charitable causes and on this day we have invited them to donate one per cent of their takings to Sifa Fireside who work with the homeless in Birmingham.
FIERY FRIDAY: Calling all couples. Want to get your weekend off to a red-hot start? There are few better ways than enjoying a curry together. If you’re having a great time why not post a comment on our Facebook page? And don’t forget to mention the name of your favourite restaurant. Earlier in the day the winners of the Facebook survey will be announced along with the results.
SELFIE SATURDAY: We want everybody who is out enjoying a curry to spice up their night by taking a selfie and posting it on Twitter with the hashtag #lovecurry. Let the world know you’re having a red-hot time at Birmingham Curry Week.
SAMOSA SUNDAY: This is a challenge to tempt the taste buds of the serious diners. We’ll pile up the samosas and challenge you to eat as many as possible in a set time. Special prize goes to the man or woman who can munch the most.
