Aktar Islam - Chef Director, Lasan Group
Aktar has carved a reputation for himself as one of the UK’s most exciting chefs. His major contribution to the development of Indian cuisine has been reflected in a multitude of awards.
He was awarded the title of Rising Star at Channel 4’s Taste Awards and rose to prominence in 2010 when himself and founder of the Lasan brand, Jabbar Khan led Lasan to victory in Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word, becoming the first Indian restaurant to take home the prestigious accolade of Best Local Restaurant. And became the only self-trained chef to blow the UK’s most revered Michelin starred talent out of the water on this year’s Great British Menu on BBC2.
Aktar is a regular face at nationwide food shows and events including BBC Good Food, Grand Designs Live and UKTV's Market Kitchen where he continues to represent Birmingham as one of the city’s food heroes. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh invited him to Buckingham Palace for his contribution to the British hospitality industry.
