Dance through the decades as Solihull struts its stuff with a fantastic two-day festival of dance.
Solihull Dance Festival
Organised by Solihull Business Improvement District (BID), visitors to the free festival can enjoy ballroom and Latin showcases, appearances from two of the UK’s leading street dancers, contemporary dance, jive workshops, talented local community dance schools, music from DJ Moyma and much more.
- Celebrating 90 years of dance - from the Roaring Twenties through the Sixties jive to the ‘Noughties’ street dance and Bhangra
- Professional dance acts, touring crews and world champions as well as local dance schools, plus a special performance from Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists, The Jive Aces
- Fashion Live showcasing style through the decades and a range of dance workshops too Solihull’s Mell Square is set to burst into life with two spectacular days of free dance performances and workshops on Saturday 14 July and Sunday 15 July.
Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists the Jive Aces will get the town jumping as part of a ‘Dance through the Decades’ day on Sunday 15th packed with music, dance and fashion - from the Roaring Twenties right through to the present day – including jive, street dance and the infectious sounds of Bollywood with the brilliant Dance Sansaar. From Glenn Miller to Dirty Dancing, nineties urban style to seventies hippy chic, the sounds and styles of every decade will come to life through dance and fashion with the entertaining Fashion Live making sure no fashion fad, phenomenon or faux pas is missed out!
Usually found competing in (and winning) dance contests around the globe, Brooke and Roxy from 2011 Hip Hop International World Champions Plague Dance Crew will be performing as part of Breathe the Beat (which is supported by Arts Council funding) throughout Saturday 14th. Local talent, including the fantastic Learning Curves - fresh from their amazing performance at the Royal Albert Hall in the Cultural Olympiad – as well as Stagecoach and Planet Dance, will be on display too with performers as young as 7 years old taking centre stage.
