October is a month many of us love, full of frightfully fun events and activities to help get us into the Halloween spirit. But finding things to do that your little monsters will love can be difficult, especially when you’re on a budget.

So to help you and the whole family have a hauntingly fantastic October, West Midlands Railway (WMR) has pulled together a useful guide packed with some of the best, affordable Halloween activities around the West Midlands. All of which are priced at no more than £20 and are easily accessible by train!

Raver Tots Halloween Party

8^th October - Birmingham

Raver tots will be back in Birmingham with a family dance party you won’t want to miss! Fancy dress is encouraged, so pick your best outfit and get your dancing shoes on for this one. There will be dancers, bubbles, games, face painting and more at the party – with tickets priced at just £14 for adults and £12 for little ones.

Travel tip: The Halloween rave will be held at Zumhof Biergarten which is a 16-minute walk from Birmingham New Street train station.

The Witching Hour – A Spinetingling murder mystery

Every Saturday and Sunday during October – Stratford-upon-Avon

Perfect for aspiring detectives (over the age of six), The Witching Hour is an immersive experience full of puzzles and riddles to solve as well as challenges to overcome as you work to learn the truth behind a blood curdling crime. Taking place at Magic Alley in Stratford-upon-Avon, for just £8 you can become the hero of the adventure as you crack the case and solve the grisly murder!

Spooky Halloween Afternoon Activities

28^th October – Stratford-upon-Avon

Get ready for an afternoon packed with Halloween-themed fun and make your very own puppet in the monstrous puppet laboratory. Will yours be cute and cuddly or fearsome and ferocious? There will also be face painting, spooky crafts, storytelling and trick or treating to enjoy at the Spooky Halloween Afternoon Activities. Tickets for this family-friendly event are £14 each.

Travel tip: The Spooky Halloween Afternoon Activities will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Stratford-upon-Avon which is a 15-minute walk from Stratford-upon-Avon train station.

Halloween Nights

28^th to 31^st October – Tipton

Take a trip to The Black Country Museum and prepare to be spooked during Halloween Nights! There’s plenty of fun to get stuck into at the Black Country Museum, including trick or treating, dancing and even a costume parade. And if you’re feeling brave, face the creepy crawlies, spooky animals and explore the eerie factories as you hear about their haunting history. An absolute Halloween must-see and at £20 for adults and £14 for children – a bargain too!

Travel tip: You can take a leisurely 20-minute stroll from Tipton train station to get to the Black Country Museum.

Botanical Beasts and Mythical Creatures

28^th October to 4^th November – Birmingham

Step into an enchanting experience full of magical surprises! The Botanical Beast and Mythical Creatures event is packed with adventure. You’ll meet witches, wizards, mischievous trolls and dancing fairies as you explore hidden corners and mystical pathways, encountering all kinds of magical beings! Childrens tickets for this event are between £6.50 - £7.50 and adult tickets are £8.50.

Travel tip: The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are located a 21-minute walk from Five Ways train station.

Halloween Family Activities – Bag of Monsters

28^th October to 4^th November - Worcester

Taking place at the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, the Bag of Monsters event is sure to get your little ghouls excited about Halloween. Professor B. Spooky has been at it again with his crazy experiment and now there are monsters loose all around the museum! But luckily for us they are incredibly friendly and love to help everyone be creative. For just £2.50 each, you and the whole family can spend the day letting your imagination run wild as you bring spooky creations to life.

Travel tip: Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum is just a short seven-minute walk away from Worcester Foregate Street train station.

Haunted House – Family Trail

28^th October to 5^th November – Worcester

Follow the Haunted House Family Trail around The Commandery this Halloween and see what ghosts and ghouls you can find hiding in the historic building. Just £2 each, this spooktastic trail will certainly keep the little ones entertained for the whole day without breaking the bank.

St John’s Haunted House

29^th and 30^th October – Warwick

Walk through St John’s Haunted House and listen to the creepy tale of Hansel and Gretel before you visit the witch’s kitchen to make your own slime and even create your own potions - let’s just hope the wicked witch isn’t home! Tickets for this family-friendly spooky experience are between £6 and £12.

Travel tip: St John’s House is easily accessible from Warwick train station, just five-minutes away on foot.

Halloween Ghost Walk

31^st October – Stratford-upon-Avon

This award-winning Halloween Ghost Walk takes place around the ‘haunted’ streets of Stratford-upon-Avon. Stroll around the ancient town listening to twisted tales of ghosts, witches, murder and mystery. This professionally guided tour will be a spinetingling adventure for everyone! Adult tickets are just £10, and children’s tickets are £5, meaning the only thing that isn’t scary about this ghost walk is the price!
