Dionne - Sabado at Portrait
Bank holiday weekend is upon us, so it’s only right to let my hair down and shake a leg considering we have an extra day’s rest!
On Saturday 29 April, I will be going to an event called Sabado. This edition will be held at Portrait nightclub in Arcadian, welcoming a 25+ audience to enjoy good vibes, with both local and out of town DJs on rotation throughout the night. Expect to hear RnB, bashment, old school classics, garage and house – a little bit of everything for everyone!
The events usually run every couple of months in various locations throughout Birmingham, switching between day-time brunches and night-time experiences. The best way to stay up to date with future announcements is via their Instagram page.
Paul - The Elvis Dead, The Old Joint Stock Pub and Theatre
On Saturday I’m getting mashed up. No, no, not like that! I’m heading to Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Pub and Theatre to see a mash-up of classic horror film Evil Dead 2 reinterpreted through the songs of Elvis Presley – entitled the “The Elvis Dead” - obviously.
This one-man, one-hour musical comedy is playing at aforementioned venue on both Friday and Saturday night. The show was a big hit at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017 and is performed by local Wolverhampton comedian Rob Kemp, whom I’ve read has a fantastic voice, is talented at physical comedy and apparently bears a passing resemblance to Bruce Campbell.
And that’s all I know and frankly all I need to know – if you’re after some Saturday night off-the-wall hilarity, then this sounds “Groovy”.

Sophie - West Midlands Safari Park
One of my favourite attractions in the region celebrated their 50th anniversary just last week, so it would only be right to honour the occasion and pay them a visit this weekend.
West Midlands Safari Park is home to over 170 exotic species across a four-mile self-drive safari, along with a host of thrilling rides, the UK’s largest Ice Age exhibit, the Land of the Living Dinosaurs and loads more.
The best part is that guests booking tickets on the WMSP website will receive a free return code, which is valid for 6 months from the date of their visit - so I can experience it all again later this year!
I’m manifesting that one day I’ll be lucky enough to stay in one of their epic Safari Lodges, designed to give you an up-close and immersive overnight wildlife experience. Does anything sound dreamier than an evening spent sitting in a hot tub, taking in the spectacular views of some of the most beautiful animals on the planet.
I don’t think so either.
