Give Your Career a Facelift with a helping hand from Selfridges Birmingham

Workers wanting to give their career a facelift are being offered the chance to meet with a  careers expert at Selfridges Birmingham this weekend for a free consultation.

Teaching and learning manager of the Birmingham Adult Education Service, James Guthrie and his team will be sharing their expert advice on perfecting the all-important first impression at the store.

The free CV Surgery is part of Selfridges’ innovative ‘Work It’ campaign and is taking place on Saturday 23rd May from noon until 6pm.

The Birmingham Adult Education Service offers a range of courses catered to help people into employment.  Each year they have over 20,000 people across the city study with them.

James, teaching and learning manager, said:

The aim of our CV drop in session is to give people advice about what a good CV should look like, the type of content that should be included in covering letters and interview tips.  We are on hand to answer questions about anything related to employment. We were so pleased when Selfridges approached us to be part of this programme and we are very excited as an organisation to be taking part.

The CV Surgery session’s main aim is to smartly and quickly dispense essential tips about how to maximise and advance one’s career, the do’s and don’ts of CV writing and ensure that all important first impression is a powerfully positive one.

The event, open to all shoppers and city workers to come along to, is part of the iconic store’s ‘Work It’ two-week campaign. It includes a series of exciting activities for city workers to take part in and make a more fulfilling use of their lunch hour in order to return to work refreshed and re-energised.

Sam Watts, deputy general manager at Selfridges Birmingham, said:

We recognise the difficulties one faces when searching for that new career opportunity. Although we wanted the ‘Work It’ sessions to be fun, we also wanted to make sure that they are informative and useful. James has years of expertise that will help you reconstruct your CV and redefine your potential.
