Date Set for The Big Hoot

After months of preparation, anticipation and hibernation, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Wild in Art are pleased to announce that The Big Hoot will descend on Birmingham on Monday 20 July.

The city’s biggest charity art exhibition will see Birmingham engulfed in colour as a combination of over 200 owls and owlets nest across its 10 districts.

Be prepared to see Birmingham like never before. Located in public spaces across the region, 90 giant 165cm tall owls will showcase the artistic and cultural diversity of the city and will inspire families to get active and follow The Big Hoot Trail.

The Little Hoot project, supported by Official Education Partner The Schools of King Edward VI, has encouraged children and teachers alike to have fun with the curriculum, with the 120 owlets flying into leisure centres, libraries and recreation centres across the region on Friday 8 July.

10 community owls, which have been part-funded by Birmingham City Council, will be on public display within their own community, including North Yardley, Richmond, Birchfield, Lozells, Soho Finger, Winson Green, Nechells, Ward End, Erdington and Bordesley Green.

Charlie Langhorne, Director of Wild in Art, said:

We’re delighted that all sectors have come together to bring The Big Hoot to life and we’re incredibly excited to build lasting memories across the region of Birmingham. Wild in Art is dedicated to creating experience through creativity, and the support for The Big Hoot so far has been phenomenal.

Louise McCathie, Head of Fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said:

The Big Hoot will encourage residents and families of Birmingham to see the city in a new light, inspiring us all to become a tourist in our own home. The Big Hoot is an amazing opportunity for our community and we encourage Brummies to join the trail and rediscover Birmingham.

At the end of The Big Hoot, all of the giant owls will be sold at auction. All proceeds will go towards helping the children and young people at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
