We have a busy year round schedule of entertainment thanks to the city’s theatres, concert venues and comedy clubs. Most venues offer preferential rates to group visitors and can help you with arrangements for your outing.
Birmingham Hippodrome, the UK’s busiest single theatre, hosts touring productions, comedians, visiting international companies and is home to the Birmingham Royal Ballet and DanceXchange. The Birmingham REP, a leading national producing theatre, offers and wide selection of contemporary and classic productions. Over at the New Alexandra Theatre, great musical and family productions, stand-up comedy and concerts await. The Old Rep is a wonderful intimate theatre that offers audiences a real atmosphere to productions whilst at the Crescent Theatre a high calibre of community productions and great classic pieces are performed nightly. RoguePlay, Birmingham's most innovative Circus Theatre Company, combines the spoken word with unsurpassable Physical Theatre and stunning Aerial Circus.
Just outside the city there’s also a jam-packed programme of touring productions and home-grown talent at both Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and Solihull Arts Complex. Both regularly host everything from touring ballet productions to musicals and comedy.
A comedy show is one of the best group activities in Birmingham. The Glee can cater for groups large and small with great food, plentiful drinks and superb comedians. Groups are always sat together and there are a variety of group discounts available from The Glee’s Box Office.
Look out for internationally renowned comedians and musicians who regularly choose The Glee to perform at when on tour. For a full list of shows and information on how to book a group go to www.theglee.co.uk.
Solihull Arts Complex hosts a monthly comedy night with three different acts from the London Comedy circuit. Many comics are Comedy Store regulars and Barnstormers Comedy promoters pride themselves on finding the funniest, smartest and silliest comedians out there.
Enjoy wine and would like to learn more about it? Birmingham Wine School - an independent wine education company based in the heart of the city, run wine tasting and wine courses. The courses focus on enjoying wine and learning more in a relaxed and informal setting, with friendly people.
Cookery schools at cutting-edge restaurants like Simpsons allow you to see the masters at work. Fun and informal courses take budding chefs behind the scenes. For example at Simpsons, as well taking in detailed demonstrations (occasionally hosted by the Chef de Cuisine) the Sommelier conducts tours of the cellar. Then hard work over, finish off with the delight of a three-course lunch.
Or if you really want to get back to basics, then at Loaf Cookery School in South Birmingham you can rediscover the lost kitchen arts of bread making, home dairy skills, butchery, wild food foraging and much more. Various courses are available every month and take place in homely setting, allowing you to easily replicate your new found culinary creativity in your own kitchen.
Join Opus for the only ‘hands on’ cookery course in Birmingham. Working in collaboration, Opus and University College Birmingham take you on a culinary journey to turn market fresh produce into an impressive three course menu fit for a dinner party.
If you want to sing your heart out and pay homage to Birmingham’s musical royalty, why not head to Southside where a plethora of karaoke venues await? You can often hire private rooms and many have attached restaurants so you can combine entertainment with a meal.
Feel like something a bit more adventurous? Warm-up with a bit of go-karting at F1K Indoor Karting, where you can also hire the whole track for your group. Or perhaps you fancy a game of bowling? Broadway Plaza offers a 20-lane bowling alley, multiplex cinema and restaurants. Or fancy some ice-skating? Then visit the Solihull Ice Rink or the Leisure Box right in the Birmingham city centre.
Another great group event, set among Worcestershire’s breathtaking scenery, is Go Ape in the Wyre Forest. A smattering of tree-top wires, crossings and wind-in-your-face zip wires; finished off with a liberal dose of people in search of their inner Tarzan. They will kit your group out, give them a safety briefing and training and let you all out into the forest canopy, free to swing in the trees.
