Happy Flippin' Pancake Day!
As you should all know it is pancake day today, which got us thinking... Who does great pancakes in Birmingham? Ever heard of Platinum Pancakes? Here's an interview we held with them earlier this week:
Name: Anthony Dillon
Occupation: Streetfood Trader
Where can we find Platinum Pancakes?
At farmer's and food markets/festivals all over Birmingham and Warwickshire. ..Solihull, Digbeth Dining Club, the MAC, Harborne, Birmingham Uni, Warwick Uni, Coventry, Lichfield, Sutton Bonnington, to name but a few.
Was Platinum Pancakes a childhood dream?
No, my dream was actually to be a JCB driver.
Can you remember your first pancake eating experience?
It was definitely on Shrove Tuesday, I remember peering through a thick fog in the kitchen watching my mum make stacks of them for the whole family.
What’s your ultimate favourite pancake topping?
Simple taste really, cinnamon and sugar with a dash of lemon.
What’s your top selling Platinum Pancake?
Lemon and sugar is the ultimate favourite, but Nutella comes a close second.
What’s your pancake secret?
I make no secret of it. The finest, freshest ingredients. Our eggs are local, free range and layed the day we collect them. The cows are milked an hour before I get the milk from Groveley Farm Dairy. Paragon wheat is grown organically in Leamington and milled, to order, at Claybrooke Watermill, once owned by Guy Fawkes Grandfather. I just try to do them justice.
I hope that has got your pancake juices flowing, now be off with you and begin your pancaking eating quest... you have less than 24 hours!
