The HandleBards

About

The world's first cycling theatre company, The HandleBards, pedal from venue to venue with all the set, props and costume necessary to perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe.

Join their all-female troupe at in the Gardens for a bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' like none other. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.

And what's the play about? Well - a shipwreck washes the court of Milan up onto a mysterious desert island, inhabited by magicians, sprites and monsters, where nothing is as it seems. There's magic, musicality and mystery a plenty!

This is an outdoor production, so visitors are invited to bring their own chair or blanket to sit on (some will be available on site), a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!

·         2pm, Saturday 27th April

·         The show is 2 hours long, including interval and suitable for any age- Best for 5 years plus

·         Tickets available online or on the door  £15 adult/£10 child (groups 6+ @ £13 each)

·         Arriving by bike? Claim your voucher for an afternoon Tea or Cream Tea in a Box

Mini Shakespeare Fest in the Gardens

This Season the Gardens’ hosts not one, but three marvellous, magical Shakespeare plays in its leafy open air setting.

Each play is performed by a different troupe of actors; from Handlebards, through the Crescent Theatre company to the young musically inclined Willmore Players.

Each play brings out Shakespeare’s love of pastoral, seasonal or garden themes

We start with the Tempest – magic on ‘an isle full of noises, sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not”,

The Crescent Theatre bring us a Midsummer Night’s Dream (29th and 30th June)  - a fairy comedy  for our magical gardens

In August (3rd) we reach the Winter’s Tale, pastoral pleasures, stormy arguments and happy endings from the Willmore Players.

Ticket deal

Buy a ticket for all three productions for just £10 each – buy each ticket and claim back the difference at the kiosk.

Don’t forget your picnics, or try out wonderful Cream Teas in a Box – available on the day.
