About

In 2020, the modern magician of dance, Matthew Bourne, returns to Birmingham Hippodrome in February with his multi-award-winning production of The Red Shoes.

You may have caught his retellings of Swan Lake or Romeo and Juliet in 2019, now his double Olivier Award winning adaptation of the classic movie is coming back to the city for the first time since 2016.

The Red Shoes is a tale of obsession, possession and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion. Set to the achingly romantic music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, The Red Shoes is orchestrated by Terry Davies and played by the New Adventures Orchestra.

An intoxicating drama where life imitates art with fateful consequences; The Red Shoes will dazzle your senses and break your heart.

More unmissable dance comes to the Hippodrome next spring when Message in a Bottle comes to the West Midlands for the very first time. This exciting new production is choreographed by the acclaimed Kate Prince and set to the iconic music of Sting.

Highly original lyrical hip hop dance and breath-taking music combine in an uplifting story of humanity and hope. In Message in a Bottle, a village alive with joyous celebrations is suddenly under siege. Determined and daring, three parted siblings step out on their own extraordinary adventures. Songs include Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Walking On The Moon, Englishman in New York, Shape of My Heart and Fields of Gold.

The cast features dancers from ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company, the creator behind Some Like it Hip Hop and Into the Hoods, and a Hippodrome Associate Company.
