Family Sundays: Summer 2023

About

Every Sunday, drop-in for creative workshops led by our artists-in-residence. Working across drawing, sculpture, painting and movement we invite you to come and spend time together as a family making, exploring and having fun!

Join us this term for our brand-new season of Family Sundays with Artists-in-Residence, Betsy Bradley and Lorsen Camps. They'll be making exciting work in our Gallery Foyer 1.30-4pm every Sunday from Sun 7 May - Sun 25 June, inspired by exciting imagery in our Summer exhibition, The Reason for Painting.

Why not make a day of it by also visiting our Mead Gallery, booking one of our Family Events or stopping off at Benugo for something to eat and drink?

Meet the Artists:Betsy BradleyI'm Betsy, a painter currently based in the East Midlands. I work fluidly with materials to explore painting as a site for play and discovery. Painting is a gateway to escape ordinary thought and be fully present in body and mind.

I respond directly to the world and the magic that lies in its everyday happenings. My work playfully interacts with space, and makes invisible forces like energy visible, bringing an uplifting experience to the viewer.

Lorsen CampsI am Lorsen, I make art using things that have been thrown away or overlooked. I collects objects found on the street, pick up unusual items in charity shops, and repurpose things that no longer seem useful (like polystyrene packaging – my current focus).

I use these objects as both raw art materials and sources of inspiration. My art forms vary between mixed media sculpture and painting, photography and installation, all the time with the intent of bringing these discarded items 'back to life' and encouraging audiences to reconsider the potential beauty and value of things around them.
