The panel discussion - 'Women of Colour in Publishing' aims to further explore issues raised in the industry report, 'Rethinking Diversity in Publishing' that was launched as part of the industries Rethinking Diversity Week in June 2020.

Areas to be discussed by the panel are to include:

Undervalued Audience - Are publishers undervaluing the potential of BAME and especially British South Asian audiences (economically and culturally)?
Diversity Reach - How are publishers trying to reach more diverse audiences?
Changes in Publishing - What has changed to date? If so, how does it help?
Publishing Industry Landscape - What are the current opportunities for those with BAME, and especially South Asian backgrounds?
Starter Toolkit - How can publishers help women of colour get started?
Career Success - How can women of colour go on to develop a successful career and become respected authorities within the industry?
From niche to mainstream - How should publishers work with booksellers to bring BAME writers and audiences into the mainstream market?
Promotion - How should mainstream publishers work with media outlets like DESIblitz.com to promote new and existing BAME writers to all audiences?
The panel will be made up of women of colour in the publishing industry. Hear their personal experiences and find out what they consider the next steps should be to address issues raised by the report and that will propel the changes needed to make publishing more diverse and inclusive.
