Birmingham based Alt-folk songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist, Chris Cleverley, announces home-coming Album Launch Show at Kings Heath's Hare & Hounds.
This rare full-band performance closes a 13 date UK Headline tour, promoting the release of his 2nd studio album 'We Sat Back and Watched it Unfold'.
The record releases to worldwide audiences on Friday 11th October, contributing to activity surrounding World Mental Health Day 2019. A bold and arresting body of new work, the material addresses a selection of 21st Century society's most pertinent, challenging concerns through Cleverley's incomparable brand of contemporary folk music.
Diverse lyrical themes from deteriorating anxious minds through to damaging gender constructs blend with an experimental guitar fingerstyle, akin to Nic Jones & John Martyn. The bold, progressive song structures reflect influence of North American songwriters Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith & Anais Mitchell, and showcase an all-star cast of UK folk luminaries including Hannah Martin (Edgelarks) and Sam Kelly.
In contrast to the tour's solo and trio dates, the Birmingham Album Launch features a six-piece band assembled exclusively for this occasion. To recreate the album's complex musical arrangements, Cleverley has enlisted five renowned UK Folk Scene names; Lukas Drinkwater (Emily Barker Band), Jamie Francis (Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys), Kim Lowings, Kathy Pilkinton (Said The Maiden) & Katie Stevens (Bonfire Radicals).
The evening will feature two guest performances from Hertfordshire based Minnie Birch and Birmingham based A. Bull, completing a showcase of UK songwriting.
