Chinese New Year

Hurst Street, BIRMINGHAM, West Midlands, B5 4TD
Chinese New Year

About

The Chinese Festival Committee Birmingham present Birmingham’s Chinese New Year celebrations, co-produced by Birmingham Hippodrome. Sponsored by Birmingham Airport and in association with Birmingham City Football Club.

We’re putting on three days of festivities across the city:

Fri 8 Feb – St Philip’s Cathedral & Grounds
Check out the striking tree wraps along Colmore Row all week and join us for Chinese tea and a FREE lunchtime concert on Friday at 1pm in Birmingham Cathedral with performances from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Dans Dance Company. You may be lucky enough to spot a lion or dragon dance too! Lion dancers will also be performing at that week’s Fresh Fridays slot.

Sat 9 Feb – Bullring & Grand Central
The celebrations head right into the heart of the city centre on Saturday afternoon (from 12 noon) with an exciting parade of lion and dragon dancers throughout Bullring and Grand Central, as well as acrobatics and martial arts from Shaolin Warriors, Hip-Hop dance from Hong Kong born choreographer Si Rawlinson, and traditional fan and face changing dancing from Dans Dance Chinese Dance & Performing Arts (recently featured on BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer).

Sun 10 Feb – Chinatown, Birmingham Hippodrome & The Arcadian, Southside
On Sunday, the streets in Chinatown and around the theatre come to life with acrobatics, circus, dance performances and karaoke on two stages, market stalls and a fun fair.
Escape the cold for a while with FREE performances in our Patrick Studio or a FREE family craft workshop in our foyers.
