Americana Double Header: A Different Thread + Banjo Jen

17 York Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham, Birmingham, B147SA
A Different Thread

About

Transatlantic duo, A Different Thread, teams up with yorkshire's own, Banjo Jen, for an intimate evening of Americana.

A Different Thread is a collaboration between Robert Jackson from Lichfield, England, and Alicia Best from Durham, North Carolina. Both are songwriters and multi-instrumentalists and both take inspiration from the music that has crisscrossed the Atlantic Ocean over the generations, in true folk fashion. Their self labelled 'British-Americana' style has been described by online magazine, Folk Radio UK, as "a strong, independent new sound" and led to them winning first place at Shrewsbury Folk Festival's open mic competition in 2017 as well as being featured on American National Public Radio last year.

As well as being blessed with the 'Yorkshire gift of the gab', Banjo Jen plays the traditional frailing style of banjo and incorporates Appalachian style step-dancing into her set.

Her debut EP Lost & Found was praised by Maverick Country magazine as "smart and sassy…a distinctly promising debut" and last year she was chosen to represent the UK Americana Music Association at various live events around the country.

These two emerging acts share a bill for the first time in this renowned Birmingham venue located in the heart of Kings Heath busy centre. The venue is accessed through Fletchers Bar on York Road.
