Welcome to Birmingham

Welcome to Birmingham, the beating heart of the West Midlands. We’re delighted to have you in our region and have put together this Crew Welcome Pack, with our partners Create Central, to provide you with essential information, local insights, and hidden gems to ensure you make the most of your time here both on set and off.

We’re well aware that people working in film and TV are some of the hardest working in the UK, but in the event that you have some downtime or need a little R&R to keep you going on set, this guide aims to gives you a heads up on some of the best pubs, bars, restaurants, and leisure activities that are on your doorstep.

Whilst the city has a rich history as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution (with the impressive civic buildings and an abundance of canals to prove it!), its official motto is Forward and in recent years it has benefited from a major programme of regeneration. It is the youngest and most diverse city in the UK, there really is something for everyone to see and do.

If food is your thing why not try the famed Birmingham Balti, the amazing street food at the Hockley Social Club (where Masterchef winner Dan Lee is in residence), or a fine dining experience at one of the city’s five Michelin starred restaurants.  Alternatively, if you’re just looking for a quick drink there’s an incredible array of cafes, bars, and restaurants to choose from.

If you’re looking for something to do why not explore the historic Jewellery Quarter, visit the Symphony Hall for some musical inspiration, take in an arthouse film or two at the MAC (the Midlands Art Centre), or see a show at the Birmingham Hippodrome – the busiest theatre outside of the West End.

As a visitor coming here to work, we want you to have a great experience and to make you feel truly welcome we’ve compiled a list of offers and discounts to restaurants, hotels, activities, and experiences. We hope you get the chance to make use of one or two of them.
