Built for Coventry’s wealthy merchant guilds, the Guildhall has survived in the city since 1342 and witnessed events of local and national importance. It has hosted kings and queens throughout its history, acted as a prison for Mary Queen of Scots, and even as a theatre where Shakespeare may have trod the boards. The main attraction is the magnificent Great Hall, where you can try on replica armour, and marvel at medieval stained glass, a ceiling of carved angels and one of the rarest and most important tapestries in the country.
