Usha Uthup will be delighting Birmingham audiences with an evening of performance and conversation, hosted by presenter Satnam Rana Grindley.

Expect joyful and uplifting music, spanning the 44 years of Usha’s celebrated career.

Taking place on Wednesday 7th June, at Birmingham Town Hall, An Evening with Usha Uthup is produced by Sampad South Asian Arts and Heritage, in partnership with B:Music and Teamwork Arts. Sampad have been connecting people and communities to South Asian and British Asian arts and Heritage for over 30 years.

Audiences can expect to hear about the life and times of the renowned Indian singer, whose career started with her singing in nightclubs in 1969. Since then Usha has gone on to record more than one hundred albums in seventeen Indian languages and she will be talking about her experiences as a legendary artist and household inspiration.

Usha will be singing a selection of her most popular music, ranging from playback songs made famous by Bollywood films to numbers sung in Swahili, which made Usha so popular President Jomo Kenyatta made her an Honorary Citizen of Kenya.

Speaking about coming to Birmingham, Usha said “Hello to all my fans in the United Kingdom, I am delighted to be performing an evening of joyful music and inspirational conversation, this is certainly one not to miss.”

Usha’s popularity spans generations, countries and languages by not only singing in Indian, but eight other languages too, including Italian, French, Zulu and Ukrainian all whilst wearing her signature sari and fresh flowers in her hair.

Usha will be joined by Birmingham’s own Satnam Rana Grindley, who has over twenty years of experience working in presenting, most notably as the Arts and Culture Correspondent for BBC Midlands Today.
