There's no greater feeling than logging off on a Friday afternoon for the weekend to then realise it's actually Thursday and Easter Bank Holiday - which means an extended four day break! We have a host of Easter events happening across the region but here at the Visit Birmingham office, we decided to dedicate a blog to what we're personally getting up to this weekend.

This week's top picks are from our marketing team - Martin, Paul and Dionne.

Martin - Hockley Social Club

This weekend, I’ll making my way into Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to the incredible Hockley Social Club.

If, like me, you love food – but you can never decide what you want to eat, then Hockley Social Club is the place for you. Brought to you by the team behind the famous Digbeth Dining Club, Hockley Social Club is a huge food hall in an exceptional venue, with great music and most importantly stalls of mouth-watering street-food.

There is literally something for everyone - it’s a blessing and a curse, as I know I will be having multiple dishes. This weekend, Hockley Social Club is home to the lip-smacking Buddha Belly, Yardbirds, South Birmingham Curry Club and Ba-Ha. Make sure you keep an eye out on their Instagram as the vendors change quite regularly!

And that’s not all. There’s a coffee shop/record store all in one, that’s part of the venue – their espresso martinis are one of the best you’ll find in Birmingham!

It’s open every Thursday to Sunday. Find out more here.

Paul - Insomnia Gaming Festival #170 at the Birmingham NEC

Back in the day I was well into computer games. I played point & click adventure games in the early 90’s and then at university I played frequently on a cutting-edge PlayStation Mk. 1 (paid for with good ol’ student loans - naturally).

For the next 20ish years, I didn’t touch a controller and the only point and clicking I did was on Excel. But then, in 2020 Covid hit and thought I’d buy a Nintendo Switch – since that fateful night I have become a new born gamer (God this sounds lame) and own about 90 games.

But that’s enough about my life story – ‘What’s this idiot going to do this weekend?’ you are asking – it is related… Yes, I’ve got tickets for the Insomnia Gaming Festival at the Birmingham NEC – I’ve pretty much ran out of space with my backstory, but this event looks interesting – billed as ’The Ultimate Gaming Experience’, they’ll be a look at new and upcoming releases, tabletop games, VR Games, content creators, competitions, cosplay*, live performances, merch and much more – Browsing the floor map, I see Nintendo have a stand, so by the end of the weekend I may own even more games – oopla!

The Festival runs 7-10 April and there is more info here.

*P.s I’m not going in Cosplay… my Zelda costume is at the dry cleaners.

Dionne - Cadbury World

To avoid the disappointment of not receiving any chocolate eggs for Easter, I will be going to Cadbury World and indulging in more chocolate than I probably should!

Having lived in Birmingham my entire life, you'd be surprised at how many renown attractions I am yet to visit. Last summer was my first visit to Cadbury World and at my big age it was a really fun day out!

Upon arrival, you get a handful of chocolate bars then you go into the theatre-style cinema to watch a short film about the history of Cadbury and how chocolate is made. This is followed by interactive drawing with melted chocolate, live demonstrations and sampling, a chocolate rollercoaster ride and my FAVE part - the 4D cinema. It really is such an interesting experience, no matter what your age is so don’t be put off if you’re a bunch of grown adults wanting to go haha!

There' also an en-site shop fillllllllled with every kind of Cadbury chocolate imaginable - amazing!

From Thursday-Monday, Cadbury World is open 9-4:30pm and booking in advance is recommended.

Thank you for reading, have a brilliant Easter and see you back here next weekend! 🐰🐤
