I know what you’re thinking, how on earth is it almost half term already – didn’t school only just start up again? Don't panic, because Visit Birmingham has rounded up our top picks for the week's activities from budget options to one-off treats, to ensure neither you nor your bank balance are drained at the end of it!
1) Dippy In Coventry: The Nation's Favourite Dinosaur at the Herbert Art Gallery
From the 20th February, you can meet Dippy the world-famous dino-star in Coventry as it takes up residence at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. The best part - the Nation’s favourite dinosaur is free to visit and any anyone visiting Dippy will also be offered a massive 50% off entry to Coventry Transport Museum on the same day.
2) Sandwell Valley Country Park
We are manifesting spectacular sunny weather this half-term, full of beautiful walks and exploration of some of the West Midlands amazing green spaces. Among our favourite spots is Sandwell Valley Country Park, with over 1700 acres of open countryside, the park boasts several attractions including Forge Mill Farm. Here, visitors can explore a farm trail, a small animal area, and a playground, as well as browse the offerings of the farm shop.
3) Festival of Archery at Warwick Castle
Looking to burn off some energy this half term? Suitable for both kids and kids at heart, the Festival of Archery is taking over the Warwick Castle grounds. Be amazed by the expert archers as they show off their skills in an exhilarating series of performances – and if you're feeling inspired, why not give it a go yourself?
4) LEGO ® Friends Hangout at the Bullring & Grand Central
The ultimate LEGO Friends Hangout is coming to Bullring & Grand Central from the 18th to 21st February. Kids can meet their favourite influencers Amazing Arabella, Talk to Coco, Teija from The Kabs Family and more, and take part in awesome activities including designing their own skateboard, live food vlogging, friendship quizzes, and building with LEGO Friends.
5) Dinosaur Breakout at Drayton Manor
Got any dino-mad children? Treat them to a day out at Drayton Manor for their Dinosaur Breakout event! On your adventure you can meet some of Europe’s largest walking dinos, experience epic rides, dance at the Dino Disco, train to be a dino wrangler in the Raptor Live Show and enjoy the Dinosaur Parade.
6) Living Dangerously at the Black Country Living Museum
Learning doesn’t need to stop when school does. Discover the perils of the past this half term with ‘Living Dangerously’ at Black Country Living Museum. Explore the devastating disasters and downright bad luck that plagued Black Country workers. Take part in an activity trail, meet historic characters, and discover the dangers that befell people of the past.
7) Arcade Alley at Merry Hill
Level up at Merry Hill with a retro arcade, full of classic games machines, old-school simulators, and nostalgic vibes. Celebrating the launch of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in April, the centre has created a one-of-a-kind, free-to-play arcade experience. Try and beat the high score on classic games including Pac-Man, Street Fighter and, of course, Super Mario arcade machines.
8) Meet Bluey and Bingo at West Midland Safari Park
Bluey and Bingo are coming to West Midland Safari Park on weekdays during February half term. They’ll be making appearances at park's indoor venue, Treetops Pavilion, where kids can get up close with for a Meet & Greet with the characters or enjoy some fun and games with the pair!
9) Create Paper Planets at Thinktank
Included in the Thinktank entry price, get hands on and crafty at Thinktank as you make your very own Paper Planets. Help the museum’s mini solar system to grow, as your creations spread across the gallery space, filling it with your weird and wonderful worlds. There are a whole host of other half term activities at the museum to get involved it, suitable for kids of all ages.
