Biggest ever events line-up revealed for Birmingham Wine Weekend 2022

Birmingham Wine Weekend (BWW) is returning to the city this year brimming with events and unique experiences for wine-lovers. From dinner with a world-renowned Master Sommelier and a ‘beef and wine masterclass’, to the ultimate Sunday Lunch experience: BWW2022 will be quenching Birmingham’s thirst for live events once more, with tickets selling fast!

Back for a full week from 4 to 10 April, the seven-day event will see activities take place across the city, exclusively for festival-goers. Working alongside long standing festival event partners The Wine Events Company as well as connoisseurs Birmingham Wine School and a host of festival venues, BWW is presenting an incredibly diverse and unique programme of events for 2022.

Start the week with ‘Taste Like A Pro’ where you’ll be coached through the basics of tasting wine. You’ll enjoy examples of different grape varieties from different countries, discovering the impact climate, food and production methods can have on the wine in your glass. 

Saint Pauls House will play host to a Hattingley Valley tasting; celebrating one of the country’s most respected wine producers. You’ll get the chance to try the Classic Reserve NV, Sparkling Rose 2018, Still Chardonnay 2020, and Demi-Sec by the family-owned winery based in Hampshire.

A brand new venue for 2022 is Wine Freedom, who have teamed up with fellow Digbeth residents Chance & Counters, to host an orange wings and wine tasting. The first of their ‘Junk Food and Wine Tasting’ series, this event will tickle those tastebuds and give you a chance to enjoy three orange wines, alongside creations by Chance & Counters’ wingmasters. 

Not to be missed, 2022 also sees the return of the festival’s popular ‘Dine With A Master Sommelier’ experience. The Wine Events Company will be joined by international wine legend, Nigel Wilkinson, for a four course French feast at Hotel du Vin.

BWW’s events schedule really does have something for everyone; from the famed wine-and-cheese and beef-and-wine masterclasses at Arch 13 and Gaucho respectively, to a sustainable wine talk and tasting at Birmingham Rep Theatre. Vagabond’s Chief Wine Maker will lead a special guided tasting during the week long celebration of all things wine and Sake experts, Shibuya Underground, will be introducing festival-goers to the fascinating world of Japanese ‘rice wine’. For those looking for something a little light-hearted, don’t miss ‘Call My Quaff’ by The Wine Events Company; bringing grapes and gameshows into one room at Chapter, a brand new restaurant based in Edgbaston Village.

Events are available exclusively to BWW festival-goers, who can purchase their £10 e-ticket today. Not only do tickets open the door to the curated event schedule, they also grant access to each venue’s festival wines. Venues will all present two of the following: a specially selected wine for £5 per glass; or a wine and canapé pairing for £7. What’s more, the week will feature dining options exclusively for festival-goers, as well as premium wine flights at a selection of hand picked venues, taking the wine discovery journey to new heights.

In a festival first, this year e-tickets will grant access to the brand-new BWW App, which is where each festival-goer will find their Wine Pass: a personalised digital wine passport for the week. The Wine Pass is the key to unlocking the festival. The app also features tasting notes for the wines available, a journal for festival-goers to rate and comment on the wines they’ve tried, and a handy digital map of the venues taking part; making it easier than ever to plan and enjoy a grape adventure.

As well as offering more events than ever before, this year will see close to 30 hand-picked venues join the line-up – the most in the festival’s history.

BWW begins on Monday 4 April and will run through until the last venues close on Sunday 10 April. Wine Passes will be valid for the entire week, enabling attendees to dip in and out of the festival as they please, or take advantage of the entire seven days.
