Birmingham-based American style takeaway, Bun and Shake, has reported a successful growth since opening in the third COVID lockdown after the owner chose to swap a career in law for burgers and desserts.

The takeaway attributes part of the new businesses success to OrderYOYO, a platform which allows restaurants and takeaway owners to grow their business using a new approach to online food ordering.

The OrderYOYO platform allows business owners to have their own personalised ordering system, offering them the set-up they need to succeed online, whilst also increasing the turnover of the business.

The takeaway opened during the pandemic after owner, Talhah Chaudhry, ditched his office job to pursue his passion in establishing his own hospitality business.

Using the proven platform, OrderYOYO, the service has supported Talhah in growing a successful business and has enabled Talha, who worked in law prior to setting up Bun and Shake, to pivot and build his dream business.

Talhah said of the choice to change career paths: “It was hard setting up during the pandemic as I was working in an office job before in law, so it was a risk to move industries and set the takeaway up.

“However, since the age of 18, I was around the family restaurant business when I was younger, so I have always had a passion for the hospitality industry.

“We’re doing really well though and people are coming from different cities just to try the burgers. We are even planning a refurb at the moment due to the success of the business, meaning we can afford to change the look and modernise the business.”

The hospitality industry has evidently been hit hard by the pandemic, with many businesses being unable to open during the lockdowns, however, Bun and Shake was able to remain open and the pandemic has seen the takeaway succeed as a new business.

Talhah said: “We are really lucky as we’ve been able to stay open and have been busy since the first day, it’s almost been too hectic.

“Takeaways were one of the only things that picked up and were making money as everyone was at home and wanted to treat themselves with food deliveries. So I think it actually helped me, maybe if it wasn’t for the pandemic, I might not have done so well.”

Throughout the pandemic, OrderYOYO has helped the hospitality industry get back on its feet, as it has had to adapt to offering delivery. The OrderYOYO platform allows business owners to have their own personalised ordering system, offering them the set-up they need to succeed online, while also increasing the turnover of the business.

The takeaway which is continuing to eye up expansion, also uses alternative platform, TikTok, to appeal to the millennial generation and sees customers from cities outside of Birmingham visiting the takeaway to sample the food after seeing the menu on social media.

Talhah encourages others to take the leap by setting up a new business during the pandemic and recommends OrderYOYO as the service of choice for restaurants and takeaways.

“We are impressed with the low commission rates at OrderYOYO and the opportunity to market the brand. We are planning on staying with Order YOYO for a very long time.”
