About

Chedham's Yard is a heritage site described by English Heritage as 'a site of significant interest'.

The Yard laid derelict after the last blacksmith hung up his tools in the mid 1960s. It was eventually purchased by the Parish Council. After several surveys and studies it was identified that a significant amount of funding was required to make the site into a visitor attraction. With limited funding from the Parish council the yard would have been  'mothballed', but the BBC were seeking entries for the Village Restoration Programme. The Yard was entered and won access to £1m of funding which enabled the archaeological and other studies, renovation of the buildings and the provision of the visitor/learning centre.

The yard opened in 2012 and now opens on Saturdays from May to September. A wide range of craft / rural events are held throughout  the season providing something for everyone regardless of age and interests.

Additional Information:

  • Access is via a gravel pathway and the surfaces within the site are uneven but wheelchair friendly. We make every effort to be fully inclusive for all visitors.
  • Private Tours available
  • Groups: Min pax 12, Max pax 30
