Live music

From 15,000-seater arenas to a network of intimate clubs, the world’s greats and the nation’s coolest play at the biggest choice of venues that we’ve enjoyed for generations.

At Arena Birmingham in the city centre and the Genting Arena just ten minutes by train from New Street, an endless stream of world-famous rock and pop acts take to the stage night after night. Together with many smaller venues that range from the O2 Academy and Jam House to The Drum and theatres staging all sorts of concerts or gigs, every kind of music has a home in Birmingham.

Even Symphony Hall (widely regarded as the finest concert hall in Europe) and sister venue Town Hall also host a vibrant mix of pop, folk and jazz alongside their classical programme.

Birmingham's thriving music scene was recognised by The Independent, read it here

There’s also a network of clubs where folk and jazz are what it’s all about.  You can catch a diverse array of live bands from rock to Motown to reggae - and check what’s on at Wolverhampton Civic Hall too.

The Birmingham area has a strong musical pedigree. Before Fyfe Dangerfield first picked up a guitar the city was already making musical history with heavy metal heroes Ozzy Osborne, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and John Bonham all hailing from the area, local legends UB40 carving out their own reggae niche and 2 Tone (including The Beat and The Specials) telling the story of hard times through a West-Midlands created fusion of ska, punk rock, reggae and New Wave.

Today recording artists are packing thousands into our arenas and places like Scruffy Murphy's, Hare and Hounds, the Custard Factory, MAC (Midlands Arts Centre), Island Bar and the Jam House are showcasing an exciting new generation of musicians.
