Babies & toddlers
Relax! Birmingham is a fun and straightforward city to visit with even tiny family members. Accessible and compact, the city is great for days out with babies and toddlers.
For a start, the city is small-enough to walk around with ease – there’s almost nowhere that’s inaccessible for a buggy, backpack or small person trying out their new walking skills.
We know how important the little things are to a great day out, so Birmingham is packed with family-friendly places complete with well-equipped parent rooms, children’s menus and well-designed play spaces to keep little ones safe and entertained. Here’s just a few ideas.
A must for small people, ThinkTank in Millennium Point has over 200 hands-on displays including a state-of-the-art Planetarium. The Kids City Gallery is a treat for toddlers. There are endless opportunities for hands on role-play and a brilliant interactive water play area.
If fresh air is what’s needed, why not step outside and admire the canal boats in Gas Street Basin as you take the 10 minute stroll along the canal to Brindleyplace?
The National SEA LIFE Centre in Brindleyplace is great for toddlers and older children. As well as feeding demonstrations, an interactive rock pool where visitors can hold crabs and touch starfish, there are thousands of creatures including Hammerhead sharks, Giant turtles, seahorses, Gentoo penguins and a children's soft play area.
Just outside of the city is the beautiful Cannon Hill Park. Easily accessible by car and bus it’s an ideal venue for families with children's play areas and a mini road train. There are plenty of picnic areas and refreshments are available. In the centre of the park is the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), packed with family entertainment including parent and baby film screenings, exhibitions and much more.
If you need some quiet time there are lots of great cafés dotted across the city for a sit down, snack and ‘babycino’.
