England vs India Test Match

1 - 5 August

Any Test match between England and India is a huge occasion and never will it be more so than when the two giants meet over five days at Edgbaston this August.

As befits the stadium where England have their strongest record at any home ground - a remarkable 27 wins from 50 Tests - Edgbaston will host the opening Test of the series against India, starting at 11am on Wednesday Aug 1, 2018.

With massive support assured for both sides, a great atmosphere is guaranteed for the latest instalment of the countries' rivalry. And the stakes will be sky-high.

The number one ranked Test side in the world, India will arrive with a team bristling with talent and charisma under Virat Kohli and determined to start the series in style as they seek to retain that coveted Number One spot. But to do so they must break their Edgbaston duck.

England's Test record in Birmingham is impressive against all-comers - but against India more than most. Of six Tests between the teams in the Second City, the home side has won five with the other drawn.

England's batsmen, in particular, have enjoyed themselves along the way. Whether it was David Lloyd (214 not out in 1974), David Gower (200 not out in 1979) or Alastair Cook (294 in 2011), heavy punishment has been handed out to India's bowlers at Edgbaston. Perhaps England should pack the team with left-handers next August!

Cook's innings arrived during India's most recent Test visit to Birmingham, which concluded in England's fifth-biggest Test victory of all time - by a whopping innings and 242 runs. Joe Root's side will have their work cut out to emulate that next summer when a slow-burning classic is in prospect all the way through from days one to five.
