SoundLounge Festival 2017

Celebrating its fifth year, the Project SoundLounge team have the greatest pleasure in introducing the SoundLounge Festival 2017. The free one day festival will be held on Saturday 5th August at the legendary Birmingham Town Hall, with doors opening at 5pm. Boasting its biggest and boldest line-up yet, the SoundLounge Festival 2017 will be headlined by Birmingham’s very own Victories at Sea, and will also feature a range of other up and coming talent from the local area and beyond.

Project SoundLounge is a youth led programme run annually by Town Hall Symphony Hall which gives the unique opportunity for a group of 16-25 year olds to organise and create their own music festival, breaking down the barriers of working in the arts. The group of ten have been working hard for the past five months in teams specialising in programming, production and marketing. They have learnt about everything that goes into planning a large music event, from booking acts to designing promotional material, to liaising with arts professionals.

Head of Artistic Programming at THSH Richard Hawley says about the project

Project SoundLounge is a vital contribution to Birmingham’s live music scene, providing a space for young cultural leaders in the city to programme and promote a festival of emerging talent. Our only role at Town Hall Symphony Hall is to support and enable this year’s SoundLounge team to organise whatever they collectively decide to put on. That this year’s cohort have chosen to programme acts almost exclusively from Birmingham is a testament not only to their collective passion for Birmingham’s music scene, but a massive shout out about how vibrant that scene is and how high the calibre of talent is currently being produced by this city.

SoundLounge team member Peter Bowkett also says

Project SoundLounge has provided a fantastic opportunity for all of the team to learn about working in the arts. We’ve worked really hard to organise this festival and can’t wait for everyone to see for themselves on Saturday 5th August!

The SoundLounge Festival 2017 is a free, one day festival focused on bringing people together to celebrate great music. The diverse line-up provides a great opportunity for festival goers to broaden their music tastes and hear a range of different genres from fresh, exciting artists. At the end of the night, they may even leave with a new favourite singer or band! The culturally rich Birmingham Town Hall provides an excellent stage to showcase the amazing talents of the 8 acts playing the festival, including the likes of The Americas and Lycio. Performers will be following in the footsteps of such legendary artists as Black Sabbath and David Bowie who have all performed at the venue.

SoundLounge Festival 2017 is a free one day music festival which will be taking place at Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday 5th August, with doors opening at 5pm.
