CBSO Pop-Up Performances
As part of the CBSO’s ongoing ambition to bring music to the broadest possible cross-section of society, musicians will be popping up around Birmingham this weekend to give a number of free performances, including two concerts performed by the full orchestra in New Street station.
On Friday, one of their quartets will entertain shoppers and passers-by at The Mailbox from 12 noon – 2pm. And then in the evening a violin trio will play in the Bullring, outside the Disney store, between 5pm and 7pm.
The highlight of the weekend will come on Saturday, when the full orchestra will perform free one-hour concerts for passing travellers and shoppers at 4.30pm and 6.30pm in New Street station – the first time an orchestra will have been heard in that setting. The orchestra will be conducted by the CBSO's Assistant Conductor Jonathan Bloxham, and will perform well-known music including Elgar’s Nimrod, Strauss’ Radetzky March and music from Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro.
On Sunday afternoon, the CBSO Little Big Time Band will perform in Birmingham Airport between 2pm and 5pm.
