mac Students Showcase
mac Birmingham art course students have been given the opportunity to exhibit work completed during their Introduction to Art Techniques course.
Hosted under the banner of made at mac, the inaugural exhibition entitled: From the Inside, which is on now until 4 May, features recent work inspired by mac’s interior and the mixed media, semi abstract drawings of Deanna Petheridge.
With over 150 creative courses on offer at mac birmingham, made at mac aims to communicate the richness and quality of both the learning experiences and the content produced on site. In so doing, participants can share their work with the public at large, while developing and building their artistic skills and creative confidence.
Encouraged to exhibit by course tutor Helen Tarr, students were asked to collect drawings and photographs of mac, to make large pieces of art, combining unusual perspectives in order to create an original and exciting response to the interior of the building. Materials used within the exhibition include chalk, pencil and charcoal.
Course participants have relished the opportunity to show their work publicly – a new experience for many of the students. In addition, the course has ignited artistic skills that have led to creative experimentation and enjoyment.
From the Inside is exhibited in the new Studio Gallery space on the first floor at mac birmingham. Further exhibitions will take place throughout the year with a ceramics exhibition taking place during the summer and jewellery in the autumn.
