Walk on the wild side at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Calling all families, come down and take part in a week of fascinating activities and exhilarating expeditions through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens this half-term.
Between 11am - 3pm on Monday 19 February and Friday 23, intrepid explorers will be invited to examine beneath the water’s surface, learning about what lurks there and what underwater life entails with a session of pond dipping. If they’re feeling particularly brave, visitors can pursue the bugs hiding around the Gardens in one of the bug hunting get-togethers. In addition, story walks will be conducted throughout the day, allowing children to act out some of their favourite tales - a fun way to delve into the gardens and find out more about the wildlife and plants the Birmingham Botanical Gardens has on site. That’s not all - there will also be arts and crafts to keep kids entertained in between activities.
On Tuesday 20 and Thursday 22, throughout the day visitors can meet Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ resident wildlife. From 10.30pm - 3.00pm, Rocky the Bearded Dragon and Kaa the Sand Boa, along with a whole host of other animals, will be with our education team in the Gallery. Spaces are limited so make sure to pick up a ticket from reception when you arrive to ensure you can spend some time with these stunning animals. There will be no extra charge, but tickets will be handed out on a first come first served basis.
In addition to these fantastic events, there will also be arts and crafts drop-in sessions taking place, as well as fabulous face-painting and even a special February trail, which will be on sale at reception.
James Wheeler, CEO of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, said: “We are looking forward to celebrating your holiday with you at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, taking a walk on the wild side with our bug hunts and animal handling slots. We have plenty to keep parents and children busy every day of half-term, all of which will ensure your children are being active and enjoying the fresh February air. However, all our events are weather dependent, so please do check our website for details about what we have going on each day before you travel to us.’’
Events will start on Monday 19 February at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and will run until Friday 23 February. Activities taking place throughout the week will run from 11am - 3pm. As a special offer, under 16s will be admitted for free when accompanied by a fee-paying adult or member. Standard admission prices apply for adults. Please take a look at our website for further details as some activities will only be taking place on certain days.
