Discover Hidden Gems at The SEA LIFE Centre

There’s more than just treasure to be found during Pirate Week at The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham this half-term.

Lads and lasses joining the hunt are also discovering a range of real-life hidden gems throughout the aquarium, with the keenest eyes coming to rest on a number of wonderful creatures and behaviours.

Here are just a few of the hidden gems you could discover at Sea Life Birmingham:

The creatures may have stolen the pirate gold, but can you spot Pablo the nest-stone-pinching penguin, who distracts the other females before making off with their stones and giving them to his mate?

Or Garry the Grouper with his odd attachment to the lagoon cannon (he gets quite angry when the cannon’s moved)?

Then there’s the bizarre Bigeye Soldierfish, staring right back at you, and the Razorfish, with their sharp spines and oh-so-strange head-down swimming technique.

How about the Archerfish, who shoot jets of water at insects to knock them into the water, or the often-inseparable Cowfish and Picasso Triggerfish, two best buddies who look like they’re straight out of an animated adventure?

See the male Lumpsuckers who turn to gold when they’re breeding and the Tang who likes to bury herself!

Captain Chris Coventry, of the Sea Life Birmingham crew, comments:

The pirate week treasure hunts will continue throughout half term, with every child taking home a piece of the gold and daily best-dressed prizes, including family passes, VIP feeding opportunities and goodie bags. Our star creatures are there for all to see, but keep your eyes peeled for our hidden gems too!
