Colmore Food Festival

Organisers have given a taste of what’s to come at one of Birmingham’s most popular summer events after the dates for this year’s Colmore Food Festival were revealed.

The Festival will be returning to Victoria Square in the city centre for the eighth time on Friday July 6 and Saturday July 7.

The annual celebration of Colmore Business District restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels attracts more than 30,000 visitors.

Colmore Food Festival is hosted by the area’s Business Improvement District (BID) and prides itself on each of the taster dishes costing no more than £4, which means visitors can try the different menu options on offer at more than 30 stalls without breaking the bank.

This year’s Festival will once again feature the culinary skills of Glynn Purnell, who has won numerous awards and national accolades for his contemporary fine dining with an eclectic twist.

The Michelin-starred chef and TV show host will help officially launch Colmore Food Festival 2018 before hosting cookery demonstrations on the Kitchen Stage.

Glynn owns two restaurants in Colmore Business District: Purnell’s and Purnell’s Bistro, both of which will be showcased at the Festival.

The Festival will also feature taster dishes and drinks prepared by Business District favourites Opus, Nosh & Quaff, The Old Joint Stock, Gusto, Gaucho, Primitivo and Hotel du Vin among many others.

New businesses to the District; Pinchos, Coffee #1 and Hookway’s will be participating for the first time.

Fringe events connected to the Festival will be held in April and May; each intended to celebrate the global cuisines and delicious drinks now available in Colmore Business District.

Glynn Purnell said:

“Colmore Food Festival is always, without fail, a fantastic event.
“Everything gets bigger and better every year – the food, the music and the ambience. This year will be no exception as more fantastic food and drink outlets continue to move in to the District.
“I can’t wait to demonstrate at this year’s event, and of course Purnell’s and Purnell’s Bistro and Ginger’s Bar will both be represented in the stalls.
“Hopefully I’ll get chance to use my sun cream again this year!”

Mike Best of Colmore Business District said:

“This year will be the eighth Food Festival that the team at Colmore BID has organised for the city.
“We’re really looking forward to the variety of food and drink on offer from our fantastic venues in the Colmore area of Birmingham.
“We’ll be joined by Glynn Purnell who is a long-time supporter and friend of the Festival; we’ll also have a full programme of entertainment including live music, street theatre and live demos on the kitchen stage. Make sure 6 and 7 July are in the diary!”
