Large-scale sketch of the entire city of Birmingham
Until March 2017, BMAG
Carl Lavia aka sketch took 6 weeks to plan, map and sketch the entire city of Birmingham.
Carl Lavia born in London 1971 is a self-taught sketch artist. He is currently based in the city of London, working in various temping jobs to finance his real passion, sketching!
He has always had an affinity with Birmingham having spent a lot of time there during his childhood. It was while in Birmingham last year that he decided it would become his next passion project.
He has just completed a large-scale sketch of the city of the entire city of Birmingham; choosing to depict the city from an aerial viewpoint with an aim to capture an intensely intricate and domineering expansiveness.
This artwork is now showing at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
The Birmingham city artwork marks the beginning of his long-term personal project, the attempt: to sketch large-scale, all 69 cities within the UK.
