The Gastro Card
Eat out for less
The Gastro Card was established in 2009 by two retired professionals who had a love of food and a passion for Birmingham.
At the height of the recession, Trevor Land, previously Group Exhibitions Director at the NEC decided that it was going to be tough for the restaurants in the city. Determined to help them stay in business he launched the Gastro Card.
A simple phenomenon; the Gastro Card would ask the restaurants to provide an exclusive offer and in return the Gastro Card would market that offer and pass it on to individuals and businesses who would purchase a Gastro card. No cost involved for the restaurants - just `bums on seats’ at a time when things were getting tough. In addition to the restaurants own marketing, they would receive proactive marketing to a wider audience through the Gastro Card website and social media.
Based in the heart of Birmingham, the Gastro Card has subsequently built up a team of like minded professionals, all passionate about food, but keen to support the Midland's restaurant business. The Gastro Card Team is Trevor Land, Jilly Cosgrove, Sally Bowen and Bryan Manley-Green. It's a labour of love, but a blossoming romance with the restaurants and their customers.
In addition we work with partners who compliment and support the restaurant scene such as Dine Birmingham, Heart of and Midlands Gourmet Girl. We strive to ensure that as a local or visitor, we offer the ultimate `foodie’ experience for our Gastro Card members.
And like all socially responsible businesses we embrace fundraising activities for local charities; this year our chosen charities are Acorns Hospice, and Birmingham Settlement and Help Harry Help Others, which we support through our Gastro Events that take place in our partner restaurants, alongside assisting them with their fundraising events.
We also work closely with schools and colleges on food projects, to develop children’s awareness of cooking as both a health matter and career choice.
So we think we are true 'food heroes' and if you would like to start supporting your local restaurants, whilst saving money, then visit www.gastrocard.co.uk and benefit from the fantastic offers they have provided for you at a cost that you will recover with one or two visits to your favourite restaurants.
